Big Bubbles Shampoo
Everyone wants big bubbles! Naturally derived Sodium Coco-Sulfate and Foaming Oats Surfactant give this mild shampoo excellent foam characteristics. Silk Amino Acids and dl Panthenol help hair to retain moisture and resist damage from environmental stress. Shea Butter WS provides ease in wet-combing and adds shine. Since Sodium Coco-Sulfate is alkaline, we recommend adding citric acid to the finished shampoo to reduce the pH to approximately 5.5.
Ingredient | Amount |
---|---|
Sodium Coco-Sulfate | 10% = 50 grams |
Foaming Oats Surfactant | 15% = 75 grams |
Shea Butter WS | 3.0% = 15 grams |
dl Panthenol | 3.0% = 15 grams |
Distilled Water | 62.2% = 311 grams |
(Add to mix at 120F or less) | |
Silk Amino Acids | 3.0% = 15 grams |
Optiphen ND | 0.8% = 4 grams |
EO/FO optional | 1.0% = 5 grams |
Glucamate LT | 2.0% = 10 grams |
Citric Acid (as needed) | |
Total | 100.0% = 500 grams |
- Heat water to boiling point.
Remove from heat, add Sodium Coco Sulfate, stir and cover until completely melted/dissolved. It's very important that all the solids are completely dissolved/melted. - Adjust pH to 5.5 with citric acid.
- Add Foaming Oats Surfactant and stir until incorporated.
- Once the mixture has cooled to 120F or less, combine the remainder of the ingredients (except for Glucamate LT) in a separate container. Add to the surfactant mixture with gentle mixing. Add Glucamate LT last to thicken – a bit more or less can be used to adjust desired thickness.
Tips for shampoo/body wash:
- pay attention to pH of finished product and make sure it is around 5.5
- pH changes can increase or decrease viscosity
- fragrance oils WILL effect the formulation
- Save a small amount of Foaming Oats Surfactant for mixing with the essential oils or fragrance oils to be added back in to the formulation
- essential oils that seem to be most compatible with shampoo/body wash: geranium, peppermint, lavender, rosemary.
